Viscountess Catherine Victoria Gorham DeWitt, CBE

Catherine “Kate” Gorham was born at Dauntsey Park, Wiltshire on 3 March 1903 to Baron Charles Emerson Gorham II and Baroness Margaret Eloise Bankier Gorham. A willful and precocious child, Kate took an early interest in exploration and aviation. She first flew when she was 15, and in 1921, she became the youngest licensed female pilot in Britain.
